Stephen and the F-Train Messiah

“Brian Dykstra wields a monologue like a sword!  His work provides the startling immediacy that makes live performance feel so alive!  Blood pumps through every moment!”
-Variety

Embraced by audiences as an HBO ‘Def Poetry Slam’ poet and fondly remembered as Jasper, sidekick to Dave Chappelle’s blind white supremacist in the now-classic inaugural episode of ‘Chappelle’s Show,’ Brian Dykstra provides his talent as both an actor and writer to ‘the (718).’ His self-penned one-man show The Jesus Factor, an outrageously funny tour de force about religious hypocrisy and power which was a staple of New York’s downtown theatre scene, landed him on Rush Limbaugh’s ‘Watch List.’ Who else to play Stephen’s acid-tongued, subterranean slam poet cum conscience?

His play Clean Alternatives, which he wrote and in which he performed, was awarded the coveted Fringe First prize at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and earned ☆☆☆☆ reviews from both the Guardian and Scotsman.  Said The New York Times of the production:  "Ferociously articulate dialogue in a hail of David Mamet-ian testosterone speak.  Sharp performances across the board.  A fairy tale for our time!"

Brian has co-written four subsequent ‘(718)’ episode teleplays, including the award-winning
‘St. Stephen the Smarter.’

"Brian Dykstra is working hard to turn ranting into a new genre, and if he succeeds comedy may not be safe…the word flow feels unstoppable…he can make you think as hard as you laugh …Dykstra displays striking comic powers."
